GCRI’s Annual Meeting brings Rhode Island’s philanthropic community together to gain inspiration, connect, reflect, and learn about current trends. The meeting is open to GCRI members as well as other funder colleagues who work in grantmaking organizations.
Keynote Speaker:
Phil Buchanan, president of the Center for Effective Philanthropy

Phil Buchanan, president of CEP, is a passionate advocate for the importance of effective philanthropy and a strong nonprofit sector. Hired in 2001 as the organization’s first chief executive, Phil has led the growth of CEP into the leading provider of data and insight on philanthropic effectiveness.

Following the keynote, poet Sussy Santana will facilitate a peer-to-peer discussion about philanthropy’s role in the face of disruptions to our sector.
Sussy Santana is a cultural artisan, poet, and facilitator who uses poetry, performance, and collective art-making to create spaces for dialogue and action. Santana has built creative community in health clinics, festivals, barbershops, corner stores, and community spaces in Providence, Chile, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Santana is the first Latina recipient of the MacColl Johnson Fellowship recipient from the RI Foundation. She is a 2025 Global Arts in Medicine Fellow, and Global Arts in Medicine Youth Mentor.
